Mississippi has seen quite a bit of back and forth in recent years over the legalization of marijuana, both medicinally and recreationally. Thankfully, progress has been made and yes, Mississippi does have its own medical marijuana program!
The status of recreational marijuana, however, is a bit more complex. Mississippi has decriminalized marijuana, but it does not have an operational recreational program at the moment.
There is so much more progress that can be made by Mississippi regarding the legalization of marijuana. In this article, we will outline current Mississippi laws regarding both recreational and medical cannabis.
Decriminalization vs Legalization
Mississippi has decriminalized cannabis, but they have not legalized it. This basically means that their marijuana laws are much more relaxed for users, but they do not have an actual program in place.
A recreational marijuana program means there are recreational dispensaries with taxable products, which Mississippi has still not implemented. Legalization is important, because dispensary products are regulated so that recreational users can safely use cannabis.
We hope that Mississippi will implement their own recreational marijuana program soon! If you want to urge your lawmakers to help speed up the process, you can do so here.
